September 2018 - June 2019
No two women are identical, so why would our bodies be? In this project I wanted to focus on how our bodies are different yet we go through similar experiences which brings us together as women. I started off exploring women's nude bodies and then after a very challenging life drawing session where the model was laying down in utter comfort. I decided I wanted a range of women who were comfortable with themselves enough to pose nude. I wanted to explore the beauty of change in our bodies when going through the stages of motherhood.
The colours of the final paintings was chosen so the colours of the models hair didn’t distract from the main narrative of their shape and physical changes. After exploring other color choices I went with the Sepia tones because it gave them warmth rather than a cold, clinical feel that the black and white produced.
This is definitely not the end of this project, I will be looking at more women and myself. I want to make all my models feel confident and empowered, as I'm hoping this will inspire my viewers to embrace and accept themselves in a similar way my models have. Women are stronger when we love ourselves and each other.
